Suncadia - A Review

Living in Seattle, there is an abundance to do within a very short distance. We are surrounded by mountains and water, offering some of the best destinations, year round. Summers in Seattle are magical, and I try to not leave the state so I can soak up every bit of what, I believe, THE best place to be in the summer. It doesn't get too hot. It doesn't get too humid. The days are long (sun doesn't set until 10PM on the longest days of the year). Occasionally, however, something pulls me out of state during the summer months. We had a trip planned to visit family in California, but plans changed last minute, so I was left scratching my head, saying, "Darn, we were looking forward to heading out of town, but where do we go last minute?" You all know I love to travel for reasons that are obvious: exploring new places, a change of scenery, making memories. But, you may not know that one of my favorite parts of travel is planning the trip!

REEEEEEWIND to a more simple time in my life...

It all started with a trip to Miami 20 years ago. I had just broken up with my boyfriend, and my bestie and I decided to plan a trip to South Beach. We would save up, pay cash, and take the trip of a lifetime (for a couple of 20somethings). I spearheaded the whole thing, and had a blast planning an epic trip. I ended up finding us a hotel in South Beach for 3 nights, and roundtrip airfare for $500/each! I was so proud of myself, and thoroughly enjoyed the entire process, including the trip itself. It was a perfect way to mend a broken heart.

Since then, I have successfully planned numerous epic adventures including my two week honeymoon to Bali. I may no longer be married, but that trip was life changing. I planned the entire trip, and loved every minute of it.

So, in July, when I was left with a weekend with no plans, I stayed up late researching places to go. I wanted to stay in state, but all of the cool coastal locales were booked, so I ventured east of the mountains, and found Suncadia had rooms available. Suncadia is a resort east of the cascade mountains, just outside of Cle Elum, with over 6,000 acres of forested landscape. There are vacation rentals after vacation rentals, a lodge (hotel), an Inn (smaller hotel), a farm, several pools, a winery, a golf course, hiking and biking trails, parks, restaurants, and the list goes on and on. Suncadia is a spot enjoyed year round, and although I had been to Suncadia, I had never stayed there, so I decided Suncadia would be our spot. I found us a room in the Inn, which proved to be a perfect spot! The Inn is much smaller and quieter than the main Lodge. Our room was spacious and serene and overlooked the golf course.

The Stovehouse Restaurant is in the lobby of the Inn serving delicious food breakfast, lunch and dinner.

We spent our first hours at The Farm, which is a must-see if you have kids. At The Farm there is the best pool for kids, a bouncy house, a playground, games and activities (archery, life size chess, ladder golf, tie-dye) and snacks. We spent several hours while we waited for our room to be ready.

When we were in Hawaii last Thanskgiving, we met some friends who lived in Suncadia, so we stayed in touch, and made plans to meet up with them the next day. They have kids close in age, so they played at The Farm pool together.

While in Suncadia, we also had a family photo shoot, looked at some real estate (one can dream), scootered around, went to the playground, ate yummy food, swam, swam and swam some more.

We had a fantastic time and would definitely come back. As I mentioned, it would be a dream to have a vacation home here. A year round destination only 8 miles from Cle Elum Lake for summer time fun, and only 30 miles from Snoqualmie Pass for all the winter fun.

Considering a vacation home in Suncadia? Please don't hesitate to reach out! I would be honored to show you around.
